Turn a simple drawing into a guessing challenge with this Draw and Guess paper and pencil game. This free printable gives kids and families a way to create their own prompts, sketch secret pictures, and take turns guessing. Download the three-page PDF at the bottom of the post.

What’s Included in This Draw and Guess Printable

The first page explains how to play and shows a sample round featuring a frog wearing a crown. It includes the supplies, quick rules, and an example of scoring a correct guess.

The second page has 18 blank prompt slips for players to write their own drawing ideas. Cut the slips apart, fold them, and place them in a cup or hat.

The third page includes four drawing spaces with room to record the artist, a written guess, and whether the guess was correct. Spaces at the top help players keep track of their scores.

Draw and Guess Skills This Activity Supports

Each round offers opportunities to practice:

  • fine motor skills through drawing and writing.
  • creativity when inventing prompts and deciding how to illustrate them.
  • visual communication by representing an idea with a picture.
  • attention to detail when studying the drawing.
  • turn taking when switching between artist and guesser.

Players consider which details will help someone recognize their idea. The guessing partner looks closely and connects those details to a possible answer.

How to Use This Draw and Guess Activity

Gather two players, pencils, scissors, a cup or hat, and the printable pages. Prepare the prompt slips before starting.

Player One picks a hidden prompt and draws it without letters, numbers, or gestures. Player Two writes one guess, then the prompt is revealed, with one point awarded to the guesser for a correct answer.

Switch roles each round. The first player to earn five points wins, so print extra copies of the four-round game sheet.

  • At home: Choose familiar objects or family interests for a screen-free game.
  • In the classroom: Pair early finishers or offer the game during indoor recess with prepared prompt slips.
  • At the library: Connect prompts to a storytime theme and help with reading as needed.
  • At senior centers or adult day programs: Invite interested participants to use familiar hobbies and objects, with larger print or writing assistance when helpful.

Tips and Variations

For an easier variation, use single objects such as a sun, hat, or apple. An adult can help younger players write prompts or record their spoken guesses.

For an added challenge, combine an object with an unexpected action, such as a penguin riding a scooter. These are optional prompt ideas, so players can choose a difficulty that feels enjoyable.

For a relaxed variation, skip scoring and enjoy revealing each prompt. Allow extra drawing time and remind children and adults that simple sketches are welcome.
